Beating the Heat: Smart Summer Travel Tips for Jordan

By Jordan Discover2026-07-156 min read
Summer draws plenty of visitors to Jordan, and while the days are hot, a little planning turns the heat into a non-issue. Start early, slow down at midday, and save the desert for golden hour — here is how to do a Jordan summer well.

Start Your Days at Sunrise

The single best summer strategy is to be at the big sites when they open. Walk the Siq into Petra at 6am and you will have soft light, cool air, and far fewer crowds before the midday sun arrives.

Carry two to three litres of water per person, wear a hat and sunglasses, and reapply sunscreen — shade is limited on the main trails.

Let the Dead Sea Do the Cooling

The Dead Sea sits about 430 metres below sea level, so it is one of the warmest spots in the country — but the resort pools and the buoyant water make it a relaxing midday escape. Rinse off in fresh water afterwards and keep your float to around fifteen minutes.

Save Wadi Rum for the Evening

Desert afternoons are intense, but Wadi Rum comes alive at sunset when the rocks glow and temperatures drop. Book a late-afternoon jeep tour and an overnight Bedouin camp — the clear summer night skies are some of the best stargazing you will ever see.

Plan a Cool-Down in Amman

Amman sits higher and cooler than the south, making it a comfortable base between excursions. Use the hottest hours for indoor stops — museums, cafes, and galleries in Jabal Al-Weibdeh — and head out again once the day cools.
